Mavericks Finish Eighth at NCAA West Regional

AMARILLO, Texas - Dani Suponchick and Armana Christianson fired matching scores of 78 on Tuesday to lead the UNO golf team to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional. The Mavericks did not qualify for the national championship.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not with those teams advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship at Grand Valley State.
The Mavericks finished with a team score of 972, just two strokes behind seventh-place Northeastern State. Tarleton State, led by individual medalist Carla Cooper, was the top qualifying team with a score of 923. Cooper paced the 49-player field with a six-over-par score of 222 for the three round event.
St. Edward's qualified second with a score of 939 while Western Washington was the third qualifier at 943.
Christianson led the Mavericks during the regional with a score of 236. She parred the first eight holes before carding a triple-bogey on the par-four ninth hole to finish three over on the front side. She was also three over on the back and tied for ninth overall.
Suponchick finished her sterling career at UNO with a strong charge to the finish. After going out in 41 with six bogeys, she came in with a score of 37, carding a birdie and two bogeys. She finished second in scoring for UNO at 242 and tied for 27th overall.
Ricca Soper carded an 83 on Tuesday while Rebecca Pollock shot an 82 to both post a score of 247 for the tournament, good for a tie for 35th. Amy Powell, a senior like Soper and Suponchick, finished her collegiate career with an 86 in round three to compile a three-round score of 256.
