2011 Outdoor Championship Summary
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The UNO track and field team concluded the 2010-11 season 20th in the final rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Mavericks competed for most of the outdoor season without several key performers because of injury.
The Mavericks were bolstered by the All-American performances of senior Heather Minssen and sophomore Sami Spenner at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship last week in Turlock, Calif. Minssen concluded her outstanding career with a second-place finish in the shot put, making her an All-American in the event both indoors and outdoors this year. She finishes her career as a three-time All-American.
Spenner was a revelation in the heptathlon, finishing fifth at the national championship after being ranked 12th in the nation going into the meet. It was her first year competing in the heptathlon.
The Mavericks finished the outdoor championship in a four-way tie for 20th with 12 points. UNO earned eight points with Minssen's shot put finish and four points with Spenner's place in the heptathlon.
