Former Mavs Excel on International Stage

OMAHA, Neb. - UNO track and field national champions Pinar Saka and Nkeiruka Domike may have completed their eligibility as Mavericks, but they continue to perform well in meets around the world.
Both athletes will compete in the World University Games in Shenzhen, China on Aug. 12-23, Saka in the sprints and Domike in the triple jump. Domike will represent UNO at the games while Saka will represent the university in her native Turkey where she is currently pursuing an MBA.
Saka recently ran 51.53 in the 400 meters to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London. She will run for Turkey in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Domike took third place in this year's Nigerian National Championships, posting a leap of 44-3 1/4 in the triple jump. Last year, she won the event in her native country's national championship and was second in the All-Africa Games. She will compete in the 2011 All-Africa Games in Mozambique in September, just after returning to UNO where she will finish her degree this year.
Saka is a two-time national champion, winning the indoor 400 meters and running the anchor leg on the winning indoor 4 x 400 meter relay team in 2009. She is an eight-time All-American and owns the UNO indoor records in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 600 yard dash. She also set school records outdoors in the 400 meters and in the 4 x 100 meter relay, the 4 x 400 meter relay and the sprint medley relay.
Domike is also a two-time national champion, earning both in the triple jump. This past year, she set the all-time Division II record, indoors or outdoors, with a leap of 45-1 3/4. She also set the NCAA indoor meet record with a jump of 43-11 3/4 in successfully defending her national title. Her only loss during the 2011 indoor season was to the eventual Division I national champion.
