Mavericks Show Promise on Day 1 at NU

LINCOLN, Neb. - The UNO Mavericks got a 2-3 finish in the 5,000 meters to highlight their first day of competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by Nebraska on Friday.
Amanda Vorthmann and Kristin Rogers took second and third in the meet's longest race with times of 18:30.80 and 19:10.03 respectively. Both athletes were running the event for the first time this season, and both posted personal best times.
In the seeded long jump event, Kathie-Lee Laidley took third with a leap of 18-6 1/2. She finished just one-half inch behind Nebraska's Kara Mostoller who won the event. The mark was the best by a Maverick in the long jump this season.
UNO returns to action for day two of the event tomorrow at noon at the Devaney Sports Center.
