GRINNELL, Iowa -- The UNO swimming and diving team finished as runner-up at the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday, scoring 980.5 points behind champion Gustavus Adolphus College (1247.5).

Nebraska Omaha finished the second day of competition with two event wins. Freshman Lexi Bergeron clocked a time of 1:00.80 in the 100-yard butterfly to claim her event. The Mavericks' 400-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Anna Haxby and Cami Hansberry and sophomores Whitney Korgan and Kylie Rathbone closed the meet with a top time of 3:38.01.

Relays were a strength for UNO, as the 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Ashley Kneifl, sophomore Maddie Hutt, junior Mattie Fosbender and senior Colleen Klaiber also took second-place (1:52.67). In addition, Rathbone placed second in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:58.76.

Freshman Christen Young also performed well, coming in third in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:13.94.

"The Grinnell Invitational is a meet that our team really enjoys,” Head Coach Todd Samland said. “Grinnell College has incredible facilities, and they run a fantastic meet. “This is a meet that we swim off events other than our specialties to give our athletes a mental break. It gives our swimmers a fresh new competition opportunity, and they enjoy it. I was extremely happy with the way we competed this weekend."

UNO returns to action on Friday, Jan. 27, hosting Iowa State at HPER Pool at 6 p.m. The meet will be the final home appearance for the Mavericks' four seniors – Klaiber, Kylie Hubbell, Ariel Lahowetz and Amanda Schulte.
