MISSOURI CITY, Texas - Karl Krieser tied the Omaha Division I school record for best 54-hole score, leading the Mavericks at the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational on Tuesday.
Krieser finished with a score of 219, tying the mark set by teammate Michael Shukis last season at the Nebraska Kearney Invitational. After posting scores of 71 and 72 in the first two rounds, good for one over par, Krieser closed with a 76 in the final round to finish 14th overall.
The Mavericks tied St. Thomas of Texas with a team score of 911 for the event. Host Houston Baptist won with a score of 838 followed by Florida Atlantic (871) and Sam Houston State (872). Three players shot a course record 65 in ideal conditions in round three.
Alex Overfelt was second for the Mavs and tied for 25th overall with a total score of 225. He shot 77 on Tuesday as did Mitch Ryan. The freshman finished in a tie for 44th overall with a three-round score of 235. That tied him with teammate Taylor Sidzyik who shot 80 in round three. Mitch Johnson completed the scoring for UNO with a 79 for a total of 239, putting him in a tie for 48th.
It was the last tournament of the fall season for the Maverick men. Krieser and Overfelt finished tied for the team lead in scoring with a stroke average of 77.
Play will resume in March.
