TOPEKA, Kan. – The Omaha swimming & diving team closed its run at the Kansas Classic on Sunday, finishing in sixth place with 170 total points as a team.
Day three for the Mavs saw points added from the 800 freestyle relay. The first team, made up of senior Mattie Fosbender, junior Erin Wright and sophomores Christen Young and Jenna Foiles, clocked in at 8:03.68. UNO's second team, with sophomores Lexi Bergeron and Ashley Kneifl, junior Whitney Korgan and freshman Hannah Johnson, followed close behind at 8:10.54.
Junior Madeline Hutt earned 15 points for the Mavericks in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.13). Freshman Hannah Alexander added another point for UNO in the same event with a time of 2:28.04.
Freshman Natalie Renshaw chipped in seven points to the team's score in the 100 free, posting a time of 52.77.
Notre Dame won the three-day competition with a total 976.5 points. Kansas took second (835.5), and Nebraska came in third (674). Iowa State claimed fourth (410), and Rice finished just ahead of Omaha with 381 points.
“This was an amazing meet for us to be invited to,” head coach Todd Samland said. “I was happy that we swam in finals all three days at this level of competition.”
Omaha returns to action Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 at the Mutual of Omaha Invite, hosted at HPER Swimming Pool on the UNO campus.
