Mavs Seventh in Pre-Season Track Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Omaha track and field team is picked to finish seventh in the indoor season by the Summit League's coaches in their annual pre-season poll.
The Mavericks, who will be competing in their first Summit League Championship in February, received 16 points in the voting, putting them just behind Oakland (19) and just ahead of Fort Wayne (10). Eight of the Summit League's nine schools sponsor women's track and field.
North Dakota State, the defending Summit League indoor champion, is picked to repeat the feat this year, earning seven of eight first-place votes. The coaches picked South Dakota to finish second and South Dakota State third.
On the men's side, North Dakota State is also the picked to win the Summit League.
The Mavericks will be led by senior standouts Sami Spenner (multi-events), Maja Mihalinec (sprints) and Amanda Vorthmann (distance); and junior Kathie-Lee Laidley (jumps/hurdles).
UNO opens the season on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Iowa State Holiday Preview.
