UNO Athletes Excel in the Classroom

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha's 272 student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 during the fall semester which ended in December. The grades mark another milestone of academic achievement for Omaha's Team.
“Given the considerable demands that our student-athletes manage, their continuing high level of academic success is a testament to their diligence,” said Trev Alberts, UNO's Director of Athletics. “Our mission always will be to prepare our athletes for lifelong achievement and success, and our student-athletes appear poised for both.
“Their achievement is even more remarkable given the additional demands of the first year of our transition to Division I status, but it also speaks to the additional steps we have taken toward administrative support. The construction of the Brian and Carey Hamilton Academic Excellence Center will be yet another tool to help our athletes succeed.”
Eighty-seven UNO student-athletes made the Dean's List in the fall of 2011 which is 32 percent of the athlete population. An additional 32 student-athletes were named to the Chancellor's List which signifies achieving a grade-point average of 4.0.
The women's golf team led all 15 teams with a fall GPA of 3.642. Women's tennis placed 60 percent (six players) of its roster on the Dean's List to lead all teams and finished with the second-best GPA at 3.595. The volleyball team was third in GPA at 3.572 and had the most athletes on the Chancellor's List at seven.
The UNO hockey team had the best men's team GPA at 3.240, placing 10 student-athletes on the Dean's List and four on the Chancellor's List. Baseball ranked second among the men's teams with a 3.117 GPA.
Construction is set to begin soon on the Hamilton Academic Excellence Center with completion of the project planned for fall of this year.
