Mavs Picked Ninth in Summit X-C Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Omaha Cross Country team, in its first season in the Summit League, was picked to finish ninth in the league's annual preseason poll of coaches.
The Mavericks received 17 points in the voting, just one behind Fort Wayne and Western Illinois which tied for seventh. North Dakota State was picked to repeat as Summit League champions after winning its first ever cross country championship in 2011. The Bison earned 64 points in the voting including eight first-place votes.
South Dakota State was picked second with 53 points. Kansas City rounded out the top three with 48 points and earned the other first-place vote. South Dakota (46), Oakland (37) and IUPUI (23) were ranked 4-5-6.
The Mavericks open the season on Saturday, Sept. 1 when they host their only home event of the season, the UNO/Creighton Classic, at Chili Greens. The race will begin at 10 a.m.
The Summit League cross country championships will be held in Rochester, Mich. on Oct. 27.
