Saka Just Misses Advancing in 400m

LONDON - Former UNO sprint standout Pinar Saka fell just short of a chance to advance to the semifinals in the 400 m at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games.
Saka, representing her native Turkey, posted a time of 52.38 in the first round of the 400 today at the Olympic Stadium. That put her fourth in her heat and 25th overall, just .07 seconds from qualifying for the semifinals. She was beaten out by Namibia's Tjipekapora Herunga who finished just ahead of her in the same heat.
Saka is the first woman from Turkey to compete in the 400 meters. She came into the Olympics ranked 56th in the world.
