Sep 18, 2012 | Cross Country
ELMHURST, Ill. - Senior Amanda Vorthmann was named the Summit League's Co-Athlete of the Week for women's cross country today. She shares the award with Oakland's Brittni Hutton.
Last week, both runners clocked the fastest 6K time in the Summit League this season at 21:49. For Vorthmann, it also was the second-fastest time in school history at that distance.
Vorthmann took fifth place in a field of 289 runners at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational on Sept. 15. She has led the Mavericks in both races this season, also winning their season opener, the UNO/Creighton Classic on Sept. 1.
The native of Oakland, Iowa is the first Omaha female athlete to win one of the Summit League's weekly awards and the third UNO athlete to do so this season, following Devin Diego and Giovanni Giattino from the men's soccer team.
The UNO cross country team returns to action at the Rocky Mountain Shootout at Colorado on Sept. 29.
