BOULDER, Colo. – For the third time this season, Amanda Vorthmann was the Omaha cross country team's top runner, but nearly all of the Mavericks posted strong times in a fourth-place finish at the 27th annual Rocky Mountain Shootout at Colorado.

The Mavericks finished with 93 points, putting them fourth among the Division I teams and overall. Colorado, running on its home course, won with 19 points.

Vorthmann finished first for the Mavs for the third consecutive race and was 13th overall with a time of 22:03, nearly two minutes faster than her time in the same event last year.

Sophomore Katarina Zarudnaya, who did not run in the race last year, finished second for the Mavs, 31st overall, with a time of 23:27.

Senior Nicole Behm raced to a third place finish for Omaha with a time of 23:29, taking more than 2:30 off her time from last year. Following close behind was sophomore MiKayla Peck with a time of 23:31, finishing 34th overall. The fifth place finisher for the Mavs was sophomore Ashley Kildow. She finished 46th overall with a time of 23:58, taking more than three minutes off last year's time over the rocky course.

Thirteen runners competed for the Mavericks. Freshman Carolyn Newhouse finished 59th earning a time of 24:33. The seventh, eighth, and ninth place finishers for the Mavs were junior Kayla Fenske (72nd) and freshmen Kourtney Osentoski (83rd) and Avery Schmidt (98th). They finished with times of 24:58, 25:26, and 26:08.

Carrie Verdon of the University of Colorado won the race with a time of 21:03

The Mavericks are back in action on Oct. 6 in McCook Lake, S.D. at the Briar Cliff Invite. The race begins at 10 a.m.
