Mavericks Set PRs at Dordt Invitational

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The UNO track and field team won three events in its return to action at the Dordt College Indoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Sami Spenner set a personal best in winning the long jump with a distance of 19-11 ½. It's her second straight PR in the event after jumping 19-06 at the Cyclone Holiday Preview on Dec. 8. She also finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 39-10 ½.

In both the long and triple jumps, Denneil Shaw finished third overall with career-best marks. She had a jump of 18-11 ¾ in the long jump and a mark of 37-09 ½ in the triple jump.

Ashley Kildow won the mile run with a time of 5:23.16 while Katarina Zarudnaya finished third with a time of 5:36.35.

Amanda Vorthmann led the field in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:17.54. Kristin Rogers was fourth at 10:53.78, and MiKayla Peck also cracked the top eight, finishing sixth in a time of 11:07.14.

In the 1,000 meters, Nicole Behm finished sixth with a time of 3:15.42.

The Mavericks were well represented in the sprint events. Terri Armstrong took third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.46 and followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the 200 with a time of 27.47.

Lauren Psota finished second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:40.04, less than half a second behind winner Jen Petsche of Morningside.

Lydia Martin was fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.78.

The Mavericks return to action next Friday, Jan. 18 when they take part in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational at the Devaney Sports Complex in Lincoln.
