Spenner Earns Second Summit Track Nod

ELMHURST, Ill. - Junior Sami Spenner of the UNO track & field team has been named the co-winner of the Summit League's Woman Athlete of the Week Award. It's the second time she's picked up the award this season.
Last week at the Dordt College Indoor Invitational, Spenner set a personal best in winning the long jump with a distance of 19-11 1/2, a mark that's best in the Summit League by nearly a foot. It's her second straight PR in the event after jumping 19-06 at the Cyclone Holiday Preview on Dec. 8. She also finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 39-10 1/2 and had a PR in the shot put at 35-08 1/2, more than four feet farther than her previous best.
Because the Mavericks do not qualify for NCAA championships during their four-year reclassification to Division I, their marks do not appear on the national performance list. However if included, Spenner would rank seventh in the country with her long jump mark.
Spenner shares this week's award with North Dakota State's Faith Kruchowski. She also won the award when it was first handed out this season on Dec. 11.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational in Lincoln. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
