Spenner Grabs Third Summit Track Nod

ELMHURST, Ill. - UNO junior Sami Spenner won her second consecutive Summit League Woman Athlete of the Week award for track and field today. She shares the award with Oakland's Brittni Hutton. This is the third time already this season that Spenner has been honored.
Last week at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational, Spenner set a new school record in the long jump while posting three top-four finishes, including two event wins.
She won the long jump with a mark of 20-02 1/2 (6.16m), breaking a record set by Foluso Makinde back in 2005 by two inches. It is a league-best mark for the event and would rank fifth in the nation, two spots higher than her ranking last week, if the Mavs were eligible for rankings during their transition to Division I.
The Columbus, Neb., native also won the high jump with a personal best leap of 5-07 1/2/1.71m) and finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.92), also a personal best.
The Mavericks return to action this weekend. Spenner and UNO's other multi-eventers will compete at the Jack Jennett Invitational at Northern Iowa on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26. The rest of the team will compete at the South Dakota Alumni Meet on Jan. 26.
