Spenner Sets Pentathlon Record at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Sami Spenner's season of seemingly weekly highlights for the UNO track & field team hit a new milestone on Friday. Spenner set a new school record in the pentathlon at the Jack Jennett Invitational at Northern Iowa.
Spenner's score of 4,104 beat Anastasia Kyvelidou's record of 4,013 that had stood since 2005. Kyvelidou was the 2005 NCAA Division II Outdoor Athlete of the Year and that season, set the D-II record in the heptathlon.
Spenner officially broke the mark with a personal best time in the final event of the pentathlon, the 800 meter run. She ran a time of 2:16.42, breaking her previous PR of 2:21.23 set at last year's Jennett Invitational.
She started the day with a time of 8.92 in the 60 meter hurdles, tying her personal best set just last week at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational.
In the high jump, Spenner set another PR with a mark of 5-07 ¾, one-half inch higher than her previous best also set last week.
Spenner threw 33-09 ¼ in the shot put, a mark good for 548 points. She followed that up with a long jump mark of 19-11 ¾, setting the stage for her PR in the 800 meters.
UNO's other multi-eventer, Amanda Alexander, had to withdraw from the event due to injury.
The Mavericks finish the weekend tomorrow as the rest of the team competes at the South Dakota Alumni Meet at Vermillion, S.D.
