Maverick Women Wrap Fall at Bellevue Shootout

The Omaha women's golf team finishes the fall portion of its schedule at the Bellevue Shootout on Friday, Oct. 18. The 18-hole tournament begins at noon at The Pines Golf Course in Valley, Neb.

The Coaches
Tim Nelson is in his 11th season at UNO, the third as Director of Golf, leading both the men's and women's teams. Nelson has led the UNO women's golf team to four conference championships including three straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association titles before the Mavericks began their reclassification to Division I in 2011. The 1980 UNO grad also has guided the women's team to three NCAA regional titles and three appearances in the NCAA Championship. He is assisted by Seth Porter who is in his third year coaching the UNO men's team. The 2002 graduate of Nebraska was a four-year letter winner there and a former professional player on the Gateway and Canadian Tours.
Maverick Men Take Second at Own Tournament
The Omaha men's golf team finished the fall schedule with a second-place finish at their own UNO Maverick Collegiate Invitational at Arbor Links in Nebraska City on Oct. 8. UNO posted a score of 909 to finish as runner up to Grand Canyon which won with a team score of 895.
Junior Karl Krieser tied for second place overall at 223, seven over par. His total score was the second-best of his career for a 54-hole tournament.
Alex Holtan was second in scoring for the Mavs and tied for seventh overall at 227. His tournament score also was the second-best of his career.
Mitch Ryan finished ninth overall with a 54-hole score of 228.
Alex Overfelt finished in a tie for 11th at 231 while Lucas Gervais was tied for 31st at 242.
Taylor Sidzyik (79-78-80-237/26th) and Miles Russell (77-88-85-250/T-45th) both played as individuals.
Ryan finished the fall as the Mavericks' scoring leader with a stroke average of 76.1. Krieser was next at 76.3. Ryan led the team with two top-10 finishes.
Krieser and Gervais tied for UNO's best round of the fall. Each shot a 70, Krieser at the UNO Maverick Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 7 and Gervais at the Erv Kaiser Invitational on Sept. 17.
Peters Leads Maverick Women in the Fall
The Omaha women's golf team hasn't played since finishing seventh at the Kangaroo Fall Invitational hosted by UMKC on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
Sophie Peters leads the Mavs in scoring with a stroke average of 79.7 and has shot UNO's low round of the fall, a 76 in the third round at UMKC on Oct. 1. She has two top-10 finishes this fall.
Katie Kesti is second in scoring at 80.4. She and Peters each have shot three of UNO's top six rounds of the fall entering play this week. Kesti's best round was a 77 in the second round of the Chip-N-Club Invitational on Sept. 9. She's also fired two rounds of 78, most recently in the second round of the Kangaroo Fall Invitational on Sept. 30.
Both Peters and Kesti have carded UNO's top 54-hole score this fall at 235.
Freshman Sarah Pravecek is third in UNO scoring with a stroke average of 81.4. Like Peters, she's had two top-10 finishes during the fall season.
Makenna Kroeker and Gentry Carveth, like the others playing in all 11 rounds so far, rank fourth and fifth in scoring with averages of 85.5 and 85.8 respectively.
