Omaha Opens Second Kansas Classic Appearance In Fifth Place

Topeka, Kan. – After the first day of competition, the Mavericks sit in fifth place with 61 points at the Kansas Classic being held at the Capitol Federal Natatorium.
Omaha opened the Classic taking 24 points in the 200-Yard Free Relay. The team of senior Whitney Korgan, junior Jenna Foiles, senior Erin Wright, and freshman Morgan Stepp took 12th place (1:40.49) with 14 points. The second team for UNO made up of Victoria Schab, senior Hannah Alexander, senior Madeline Hutt, and freshman Jamie Dhabalt added 10 more in 18th place.
The 400-Yard Medley Relay teams added 34 points for Omaha. The eighth-place team of Stepp, Hutt, Foiles, and Korgan, took 24 points (3:59.64). Wright, Dhabalt, Schab and freshman Breanna Brown added the second top finish in the relay for 10 more points (4:18.08).
Stepp contributed to 41 Maverick points. The Parker, Colo., native swam in both relay events and took the only individual win of the day in the 200-Yard IM (2:10.33).
The competition pits Omaha against in-state competitor Nebraska, who sits in third place with 221 points. Kansas is leading in first with 297 against Big 12 foe Iowa State in second with 240. Air Force is ahead of Omaha in fourth place with 155 points. Northern Iowa, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, sits in last place with 60 points.
The meet consists of preliminary competition in the morning and finals at night.
Competition continues through Sunday with final competition broadcast on the Topeka-area Time Warner Cable Sportschannel starting at 3 p.m. It will also be on ESPN 3, which is available online here.
