
Vorthmann Sets 5K Record at Wichita St.

WICHITA, Kan. – Amanda Vorthmann broke her own school record in the 5,000 meters on the first day of competition at the Varsity Apartments Invitational at Wichita State on Friday.
Vorthmann won the event with a time of 17:30.66. She took almost eight seconds off her previous school record run at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 18. It's the third time this season she's set the school's 5,000 meter record.
Teammate Kristin Rogers finished fifth in a time of 18:15.61, her second PR in the event this year and more than 20 seconds faster than the previous mark.
In the long jump, Kathie-Lee Laidley, competing in the event for the first time this year, took second with a leap of 18-11 ¾. Denneil Shaw came in third with a jump of 18-05 ¾.
Day two of competition begins on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
