
Another Record Falls at Vorthmann's Feet

AMES, Iowa - Amanda Vorthmann's assault on the Omaha track & field record book hit another milestone in the mile run at Iowa State on Friday.
Vorthmann ran a time of 4:56.57 in the event at the Iowa State Classic, breaking the school record of 4:59.22 set by Tara Biltoff back in 1997. Vorthmann's previous personal best was 5:02.67 set at Wichita State last Saturday.
Vorthmann has already set the school record in the 5,000 meters three times this season, and she also owns the school's 3,000 meter record.
In other action on Friday, the Mavericks set another round of personal bests. Lianne McNaughton, competing for the first time this season because of injury, threw a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 52-08, almost a foot and a half farther than her previous best.
Liz Thompson posted a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 41-10 1/2, more than seven inches beyond her previous best.
In the triple jump, Denneil Shaw had a leap of 38-04, good for third place and a new personal best.
On the track, Lydia Martin had a new PR in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.79. Katarina Zarudnaya posted UNO's top time in the race at 2:17.56.
In the 5,000 meters, UNO picked up two personal bests. Kristen Carmichael ran a time of 19:01.86, almost 20 seconds faster than her previous PR. Kayla Fenske posted a time of 19:25.70, also a personal best. Kristin Rogers was UNO's top finisher in the event with a time of 18:16.89.
Also on Friday, Maja Mihalinec qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.59.
The final day of competition begins on Saturday at 11 a.m.
