Spenner Medals at USA T&F Championship

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – UNO multi-event specialist Sami Spenner added to her list of accomplishments in a remarkable indoor season by setting a new school record in the pentathlon on the first day of competition at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championship.
Spenner finished in fourth place and received a bronze medal for her performance. She earned 4,271 points, shattering her own record of 4,104 set on Jan. 25 at Northern Iowa.
Spenner is competing in the event because she is ineligible for the NCAA championship next week during UNO's four-year reclassification to Division I. If she were eligible, her new mark would rank second in the country.
The junior out of Columbus, Neb. set a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 37-10 ¾ and tied her personal best in the long jump with a leap of 20-05 ½. She closed the pentathlon with another personal best in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:14.53 that beat her previous PR of 2:16.43 also set at Northern Iowa.
She also ran a time of 8.74 in the 60 meter hurdles and had a mark of 5-07 in the high jump, just three-quarters of an inch off her personal best.

Spenner competed in the long jump on Saturday, and the grueling schedule of competition and travel finally caught up with her. She posted a leap of 19-05 1/2, well off her school record mark of 20-05 1/4 set earlier this season.
