MACOMB, Ill. - Alex Holtan shot a second-round score of 71 to help the Omaha men's golf team to a tie for eighth after the first day of competition at the Beu Mussatto Invitational at Western Illinois.
The Mavericks shot a 36-hole team score of 599 to tie with Creighton. South Dakota State leads the tournament with a score of 585 followed by Indian Hills Community College and IUPUI which are both two shots back. The final 18 holes will be played on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course.
Holtan's second-round score was part of a day one total of 147 to lead the Mavericks and put him in a tie for 11th overall. Mitch Ryan shot 74-75 for a total of 149 to rank second for UNO and put him in a tie for 28th overall.
Alex Overfelt was third for UNO, rebounding from a 78 in round one to shoot 73 in the second round, the Mavs' second-best 18 hole round of the day. His 151 total put him in a tie for 35th overall. Taylor Sidzyik is one stroke back at 152 to sit in a tie for 40th.
Michael Shukis, coming off a illness-plagued start to the week, shot 79-77-156 to round out the scoring for UNO.
