OMAHA, Neb. - Senior Elizabeth Havekost shot an opening-round score of 79 to lead the Omaha women's golf team on the first day of competition at the Creighton Classic.
The Mavericks are in seventh place with a score of 335 after the first 18 holes at the Oak Hills Country Club. Northern Iowa leads the 12-team field with a score of 311 followed by North Dakota State in second place at 315. Western Illinois is third, one shot back.
Havekost's round of 79 is one stroke off her season best 18-hole round shot in the second round at Kansas City last Monday. She is tied for 10th place overall. Freshman Katie Kesti is second for UNO after carding an 84 to put her in a tie for 30th place.
Brooke Thilges is just one shot behind Kesti at 85 which puts her third for UNO and in a tie for 36th overall. Melyssa Doerr shot an 87 over the 6,010-yard layout to sit fourth for UNO and in a tie for 44th overall.
Sophie Peters concluded the scoring for UNO with an opening round 90, putting her in a tie for 56th place.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
