Mavs Take Fourth, Eighth at Summit Golf

KELLER, Texas - The Omaha men's and women's golf teams exceeded expectations by finishing eighth and fourth respectively in the Summit League Championships.
Both teams were picked to finish last in their first-ever run through the league's premier golf event.
The women finished with a team score of 979 in the 54-hole event including a score of 324 in the final round. North Dakota State fulfilled the prediction of the pre-season coaches poll by winning the Summit League Championship with a score of 949. Kansas City was second at 960 followed by IUPUI at 979.
Brooke Thilges and Sophie Peters tied for the team lead and finished in a tie for sixth with twin scores of 243. Thilges shot 79 in round three while Peters carded an 83.
Katie Kesti was third for UNO with a score of 246, tying Thilges for best third round with a 79. She tied for 14th overall in the field of 45 golfers. Senior Elizabeth Havekost, playing her final round as a Maverick, shot 83 to conclude the tournament with a score of 247 putting her in a tie for 16th.
Melyssa Doerr, also concluding her UNO career on Wednesday, shot an 84 in round three for a three-day total of 259.
On the men's side, the Mavericks had a three-round team score of 946 including a final-round tally of 313. Kansas City repeated as Summit League champions with a score of 880. South Dakota was the runner up with a score of 899 followed by South Dakota State at 912.
Karl Krieser shot UNO's best round of the season and his career, firing a two-under-par 70 to lead the Mavs in scoring at 226, 10th overall. Taylor Sidzyik was second in team scoring, shooting 234 at the Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club. His final round score of 87 helped him finish 23rd overall.
Alex Overfelt shot an 83 in the final round to finish with a total of 240, third for UNO and 34th overall. Mitch Ryan had an 82 on Wednesday to conclude the tournament with a score of 246, putting him 40th overall.
Mitch Johnson rounded out the scoring for the Mavs with a three-day total of 252 including an 83 in the last round.
