
Three Mavs Named To Academic Team

ELMHURST, Ill.- Maja Mihalinec, Sami Spenner and Katarina Zarudnaya of the Omaha track & field team were all named to the 2013 Summit League Academic All-League Team today.
Mihalinec holds a 3.716 GPA in Spanish and finished fourth in the Summit League Outdoor Championship in the 100 meters (12.00) and 200 meters (24.64). Mihalinec is a two-time honoree, having been named to the indoor academic all-league team as well.
Spenner, an exercise science major with a 3.758 GPA was named the Field Championship MVP after capturing six top-six finishes, including a trio of league titles at the championships. The junior won the long jump (20'9”/6.32m), triple jump (41'4.5”/12.61m) and heptathlon with a league record 3,356 points and finished runner-up in the 100 meters (11.75), 200 meters (24.12) and sixth in the high jump.(5'6”/1.68m). Her long jump mark is also a school record.
Like Mihalinec, Spenner also was named to the indoor academic all-league team this season.
Zarudnaya won the league crown in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.90, finished third in the 800 meters (2:16.33) and is a business administration major with a 3.761 GPA.
Spenner and Mihalinec also ran legs of the Mavs' 4 x 100 meter relay which finished fourth in the championship while Spenner and Zarudnaya were members of UNO's 4 x 400 meter relay that also finished fourth.
