EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team put together two strong rounds to open the season and sits in fourth place after the first day of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE.

The tournament is the first of the season for the Mavericks. The final round will tee off on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Sunset Hills Country Club.

The Mavs put together team scores of 292-297 to sit just nine shots out of first at 589. Belmont leads followed by host SIUE (583) and Bradley (587).

Taylor Sidzyik fired back-to-back even par rounds of 72 to lead the Mavs in scoring at 144, good for a tie for sixth overall. The scores were career bests.

Alex Holtan shot 74-72-146 to sit second for the Mavs and in a tie for 10th overall, followed by Mitch Ryan (72-78) and Alex Overfelt (74-76) who tied at 150, putting them in a tie for 27th overall in the 69-player field.

Karl Krieser shot 78-77-155 to put him fifth for the Mavs and tied for 50th overall. Freshman Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, shot 82-80-162 to put him in a tie for 67th.
