EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team shot the lowest 54-hole score of the Division I era to finish in sixth place at the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE on Tuesday.
The Mavericks posted a score of 892, six shots better than the previous mark set last year at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Kansas City. The Mavs' team score in round three was 303 and followed rounds of 292, another D-I era record, and 297 on day one.
Belmont finished a wire-to-wire win with a total score of 866, outdistancing host SIUE at 873. Lipscomb finished third at 883.
Mitch Ryan and Alex Overfelt each shot 75 in round three to finish in a tie for first in team scoring at 225. For Overfelt, the total tied his career best. Both players finished in a tie for 26th overall in the 70-player field.
Karl Krieser had UNO's low round of the day at 71 to finish with a 54-hole score of 226, tying him with teammate Taylor Sidzyik who fired an 82 after two rounds of 72 on day one. Both players were tied for 29th.
Alex Holtan carded an 83 in the final round to finish at 229, good for a tie for 39th. Freshman Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, shot a career-best 76 in round three to close at 239, putting him 66th overall.
The Mavericks return to the course on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16-17 at the Erv Kaiser Invitational at North Dakota State.
