Maverick Men To K-State; Women Visit UMKC

The Omaha men's golf team returns to action following an off week with a trip to Kansas State for the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 - Oct. 1. Tee times each day are 8:30 a.m. at the Colbert Hills Golf Course. The women travel to Kansas City for the UMKC Fall Invitational on the same days. Tee times each day are 8 a.m. at the Shoal Creek Golf Course.
The Coaches
Tim Nelson is in his 11th season at UNO, the third as Director of Golf, leading both the men's and women's teams. Nelson has led the UNO women's golf team to four conference championships including three straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association titles before the Mavericks began their reclassification to Division I in 2011. The 1980 UNO grad also has guided the women's team to three NCAA regional titles and three appearances in the NCAA Championship. He is assisted by Seth Porter who is in his third year coaching the UNO men's team. The 2002 graduate of Nebraska was a four-year letter winner there and a former professional player on the Gateway and Canadian Tours.
Ryan Paces Maverick Men
Mitch Ryan is UNO's leading scorer through the first two tournaments of the season. He's posted a stroke average of 74.7 through six rounds this season including two career-best rounds of 72. He tied his career best 54-hole score with 223 at the Erv Kaiser Invitational at North Dakota State on Sept. 16-17.
Alex Overfelt ranks second with a stroke average of 75.7. He tied his career-best 18 hole score at the Erv Kaiser Invitational on Sept. 16 and matched his career-best 54-hole score at the Derek Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 9-10.
Karl Krieser, who last year led the Mavs in scoring, is third with a stroke average of 76.5. He also posted UNO's second-best round of the season, a 71 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 10.
Freshman Lucas Gervais is fourth in scoring at 76.7. He owns UNO's best 18-hole round of the season with a career-best 70 at the Erv Kaiser Invitational on Sept. 17.
Alex Holtan and Taylor Sidzyik are tied for fifth in scoring for the Mavs with stroke average of 76.8. Sidzyik shot back-to-back career rounds of 72 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 9.
Freshman Miles Russell has yet to compete for the Mavericks.
Another Fourth For Women
The Omaha women's golf team took fourth place in the SIUE Intercollegiate on Sept. 23-24. It was their second straight fourth-place finish following the same result at North Dakota a week earlier.
The Mavericks posted a 36-hole team score of 650 in the 36-hole tournament. Valparaiso won the tournament with a score of 639. Lipscomb was second at 642, and host SIUE was third at 647. In all, 10 teams competed in the event.
Sophie Peters was UNO's leading scorer at 159, finishing in a tie for sixth overall.
Sarah Pravecek shot two rounds of 80 to finish second for the Mavs at 160, good for eighth overall. She was one stroke ahead of teammate Katie Kesti who was in a tie for ninth.
Makenna Kroeker carded a two-round score of 172, tying her with teammate Gentry Carveth. They were tied for 36th in the 60-player event.
Kat Slump, playing as an individual, shot a two-day total of 197.

The Maverick men will host their first ever tournament when they stage the Maverick Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8 at Arbor Links Golf Course in Nebraska City. It will be their final tournament of the fall. The women will have nearly two weeks off before finishing their fall schedule on Oct. 18 at the Bellevue Shootout in Valley, Neb.
