Omaha Opens Mutual of Omaha Invite Tied For Second

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team opened its annual Mutual of Omaha Invite Friday at HPER Pool tied for second place with Northern Colorado, both teams earned 292 points on the day.
“We had some great swims tonight,” head coach Todd Samland said. “We broke two school-records, Morgan (400 IM) and Natalie (50 free), but we also had a lot of girls come back and drop their times so I was really happy about that part of it.”
All who were in attendance tonight witnessed history as junior Natalie Renshaw and sophomore Morgan Stepp both shattered school record times in the 50 free and 400 IM respectively. Renshaw touched the pad first at 23.28, besting the previous school-record (23.36) set by Jessica Hessel in 2008 by less than a tenth of a second. Stepp took the top spot by clocking in a time of 4:24.03. The Parker, Colo., native finished over a second faster than the previous school-record, which was set by Stepp in the 2013-14 season (4:25.05).
Renshaw, the Millard North alum, also took the reign in the 200 free, finishing with a season-best time of 1:52.87.
Senior Jenna Foiles placed second in the 100 fly finals with a season-best time of 57.65.
Junior diver Miranda Knipfer fell just short of the top spot in the 3-meter dive, finishing second with a total score of 252.20.
The 200 free relay team of Foiles, Renshaw, junior Hannah Johnson and freshman Cassie Jahn took the second spot in the event, finishing with a season-best time of 1:36.27.
The 400 medley relay team quartet of Stepp, Foiles, Renshaw, and sophomore Jamie Dhabalt placed third in the event. They quad finished with a time of 3:55.30, besting the previous mark in the event by over eight seconds.
Omaha closes out the Mutual of Omaha Invite tomorrow at HPER Pool. Preliminary heats start at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 5 p.m. Be sure to visit the official Mutual of Omaha Invite page for the most up to date information regarding the event.
