Mavs Take Third in Annual Mutual of Omaha Invite

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team closed out the two-day Mutual of Omaha Invite on Saturday finishing in third place with 557 total points.
Junior Natalie Renshaw and sophomore Morgan Stepp once again had record-breaking days. Renshaw set a new season-best time in the 100 back at 57.20 while taking the top spot. Stepp bested her previous time in the 200 breast by pacing to a first place finish and a time of 2:21.81. The two swimmers now hold four of the top five times for the season in each respective event.
Renshaw, an Omaha native, also was victorious in the 200 IM finishing with a time of 2:08.14.
Freshman Norfolk, Neb., native, Kaitlin Harthoorn swam to a personal-best time of 2:09.60 in the 200 fly finishing in fifth.
“I feel like our team did fantastic this weekend,” head man Todd Samland said. “We obviously had some great wins, but we also had some girls who are getting closer to being a top-16 performer at conference and that's the purpose of these meets this weekend.”
The seasoned quartet of Renshaw, Stepp, senior Jenna Foiles and freshman Hialry Schieffer combined to post the fourth fastest time ever for an Omaha 800 free relay team (7:37.42), besting the previous season-fast time by nearly 18 seconds.
Junior Miranda Knipfer continued her solid season on the board by penciling in a season-best score in the 1-meter dive with 246.60. The Millard South alum now holds all five top scores on the season for the Mavs.
“I'm really thrilled with Miranda's performances this season,” diving coach Adam Lekovich said. “She continues to improve with each and every competition, and she's been in the conversation for the top spot in every event she's competed in this season.”
Omaha continues its home stand with Northern Iowa on Dec. 13. The meet will begin at noon from HPER Pool.
