Mavs End Championships in Fifth, Stepp is League Champion

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Omaha swimming and diving team concluded the 2013-14 season Saturday with a fifth-place finish at Summit League Championships.
The Mavericks ended the four-day competition with 385.5 points. After leading the entire meet, Denver was the Summit League Team Champion with 1017.5 points. South Dakota State (595) finished second, with IUPUI (517), the host university, in third. South Dakota garnered 446 points, just ahead of Omaha in fifth. Eastern Illinois (226) and Western Illinois (135) rounded out the final standings.
The highlight of Saturday's events was freshman Morgan Stepp's victory in the 200 fly. The Parker, Colo., native clocked a season-best 2:04.06 to beat swimmers from South Dakota State for the top spot. The win marked Omaha's first league event title.
Sophomore Natalie Renshaw and senior Madeline Hutt had two top finishes for UNO. Renshaw posted 50.81 to place third in the 100 free. Hutt garnered the second third-place finish for the Mavericks clocking 2:16.29 in the 200 breast.
The 400 free relay team placed fourth. Renshaw, freshman Mackenzie Ritter, and seniors Whitney Korgan and Erin Wright posted the team's fastest time this season with 3:30.45. They trumped their previous top time of 3:35.43 at the Kansas Classic.
In 3-meter diving, sophomore Miranda Knipfer placed third with a score of 255.5.
