Spring Season Starts For Women's Golf

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Omaha women's golf team opened the spring half of its season at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Monday.
The Mavericks are tied with Idaho State for 14th in the 15-team tournament with a team score of 704 over the first 36 holes at the Wigwam Golf Course. Northern Arizona leads the field with a score of 603, followed by Santa Clara at 611. Host Grand Canyon is third at 612.
Katie Kesti led the Mavericks who were playing their first rounds outside this spring. After carding a round of 89, she came back with a team-best round of 77 for a total score of 166. That put her in a tie for 49.
Makenna Kroeker was second for UNO and 72nd overall with rounds of 83-93 for a total of 176. That put her one stroke ahead of teammate Sophie Peters who is 73rd overall after going 91-86-177 over the first two rounds.
Kat Slump shot rounds of 94-95 for a score of 189, good for 82nd place. Gentry Carveth rounded out the scoring for the Mavericks, shooting 100-91-191 to put her in a tie for 83rd place.
The final round begins with a shotgun start at 10:15 a.m. CT.
