
Spenner Named National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Sami Spenner has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Jack Jennet Invitational last weekend. Spenner smashed the school record in the pentathlon with 4,406 points, eclipsing the old mark of 4,271 which she set last year.
Spenner won all six events that she competed in during the weekend, including setting a new record in the long jump to go along with the pentathlon school record. Spenner leaped 20-09 to break the old record of 20-05 1/4, which she also held. In addition, Spenner set new PR's in the 60 meter hurdles (8.62), high jump (5-08) and shot put (41-04 1/2).
Spenner's pentathlon score currently ranks first on the NCAA Indoor Performance list and third in the world according to iaaf.org. The score ranks sixth all-time collegiately and third all-time as an American collegiate score.
Spenner and the Mavericks will continue their season on Saturday, Feb. 8 by competing at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet in Vermillion, S.D. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. from the Dakota Dome.
