Spenner Named Summit League Athlete of Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha senior Sami Spenner has been named the Summit League's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The honor marks a Summit League-record eighth time that any one athlete has earned the honor.
The honor comes one day after Spenner was named National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA for her performance at the Jack Jennett Invitational last weekend.
Spenner won all six events she competed in on her way to breaking the school record in both the pentathlon and long jump. Spenner smashed the school's pentathlon record with 4,406 points, eclipsing the old mark of 4,271 that she set last year.
Spenner also broke the school record in the long jump with a leap of 20-09 to break the old record of 20-05 1/4, which she also held.
Spenner's pentathlon score currently ranks first on the NCAA Indoor Performance list and third in the world according to iaaf.org. The score ranks sixth all-time collegiately and third all-time as an American collegiate score.
Spenner and the Mavericks will continue their season on Saturday, Feb. 8 by competing at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet in Vermillion, S.D. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. from the Dakota Dome.
