Spenner Named Summit League Athlete of Month

ELMHURST, Ill. - UNO track & field multi-event specialist Sami Spenner was named the Summit League's Female Athlete of the Month for January.
Spenner earned her third career Athlete of the Month award after capturing this week's Summit League Conference and USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week awards. At the Jack Jennett Invitational, the senior set the school record and top NCAA mark with a score of 4,406 in the pentathlon. Her score currently ranks third in the world and is sixth all-time for a collegiate athlete. Spenner won all six events that she competed in including setting a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 20'-9”.
Spenner finished the month of January by winning nine events throughout the four meets that she participated in, setting two school records while also setting seven new personal records. The Columbus, Neb., native currently ranks in the Summit League's top-10 in seven events, including first in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and pentathlon.
Spenner and the rest of the Mavericks head to Vermillion, S.D. tomorrow to take part in the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. from the Dakota Dome.
