Spenner Named Summit League Athlete of Month

ELMHURST, Ill. - UNO track & field multi-event specialist Sami Spenner was named the Summit League's Female Athlete of the Month for February. The honor marks a league-record fourth time that any one athlete has won the award.
During the month of February, Spenner set three new school records at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Columbus, Neb. native also set the American Collegiate Record in the pentathlon with 4,498 points, finishing runner-up to Olympian Sharon Day-Monroe. Her score of 4,498 points ranks sixth all-time. Spenner finished the month with eight first-place finishes, including three at The Summit League Championships where she accounted for 60 of Omaha's 109 points. Spenner set the school records in the long jump (20' 09.75”/6.34m) and 60-meter hurdles (8.52) and earned All-Summit League honors.
The Maverick track and field team will start the 2014 Outdoor season next Saturday at the Tulsa Duals in Tulsa, Okla.
