Spenner Named to Summit Academic All-League Team

Elmhurst Ill. - Senior Sami Spenner was named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team, the conference announced Wednesday. The team was voted on by the seven conference institutions' faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. A total of 10 student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their combined athletic and academic performances this season.
Spenner, a native of Columbus, Neb., earned her second straight Academic All-League honors after winning the 60 meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and pentathlon at the Summit League Indoor Championships earlier this month. She was named the Field Championship MVP for the second consecutive season, while helping lead Omaha to a third place finish at the Indoor Championships. Spenner set a new conference record in the pentathlon with 4,027 points, and earned 60 of the Mavericks 109 points at the meet. She carries a 3.815 grade-point average in exercise science with plans to graduate in May.
The North Dakota State and South Dakota women's teams each combined for a league-best four honors, while Western Illinois and Omaha each had one honoree. All 10 student-athletes hold a 3.59 grade-point average (GPA) or better.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The women's indoor track and field all-league teams is made up of the 10 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
