Mavs Picked Third in Summit Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Omaha track & field team has been picked to finish third in the annual outdoor preseason poll, the conference office announced Wednesday. The poll was determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.
The Mavericks, who finshed third in their first appearance in the championship last season, earned 24 points in the voting. They trailed six-time defending champion North Dakota State which earned 35 points and five first-place votes and South Dakota which earned 32 points and two first-place votes.
Rounding out the voting were South Dakota State (23 points), Western Illinois (16), Fort Wayne (11) and IUPUI (6).
During last year's outdoor championship, senior Sami Spenner won individual titles in the long jump, triple jump and heptathlon. She was the 2012-13 Field Championship MVP and the Field Athlete of the Year in the Summit League.
The Mavericks begin their 2014 outdoor season on Saturday, March 22 at the Tulsa Duals in Tulsa, Okla.
