Spenner Breaks Triple Jump Record at Wichita State

Wichita, Kan. - Senior Sami Spenner broke her own triple jump record on Saturday at the KT Woodman Classic. The Columbus, Neb. native finished second with a wind legal jump of 41' 10 1/2", breaking her own record by more than a foot.
The 10,000 meters was run late into Friday night and saw both Kristin Rogers and Lindsey Bruns record top eight finishes. Rogers (39:48.84) finished fourth while Bruns (40:07.12) set a new PR and finished sixth. Emily Moore also set a new personal record in the 5,000 meters on Friday night with a time of 20:55.74.
Saturday saw multiple Maverick athletes finish in the top eight, including two of the top three in the long jump. Kathie-Lee Laidley (19' 4") finished runner-up while Denneil Shaw finished third with a leap of 18' 11 1/4".
Nearly all of the sprints and jumps on Saturday were wind aided, and do not count towards personal bests or school records.
Both Megan Adams and Liz Thompson set new PR's in the shot put, as Thompson (44' 7") finished third while Adams (37' 5") surpassed her previous personal record by nearly two feet.
The Maverick 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Terri Armstrong, Nicole Liske, Laidley and Spenner finished fourth with a time of 47.33 while the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay team consisting of Spenner, Shaw, Celeste Robinson and Laidley finished second with a time of 1:02.50.
Omaha will return to the Sunflower State next week to take part in the Kansas Relays on April 17-19 in Lawrence, Kan. Start times for all three days are to be announced.
