Spenner Earns Summit League Athlete of Week Honors

Elmhurst, Ill. - Sami Spenner was named Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The award marks Spenner's second career outdoor track and field athlete of the week honor and the first time this season that she has won the award.
Spenner competed in both the ESU Combined Multis and KT Woodman Classic last week where she broke her own school record in the triple jump in addition to setting two new personal records. The senior from Columbus, Neb. had a wind-legal leap of 41' 10 1/2" to finish runner-up in the triple jump at the KT Woodman Classic while finishing ninth in the javelin throw with a toss of 124'. Spenner competed in the javelin throw earlier in the day at the ESU Combined Multis where she finished first in the 22-person field with a personal record toss of 130' 1/4".
In track meets through April 12th, Spenner leads the Summit League in both the long jump (20' 4 1/4") and triple jump (41' 10 1/2") while ranking in the top 10 in the 100 meter hurdles (2), 200 meters (2) , 100 meters (3), high jump (3) and javelin (5).
Spenner will be back in action this week at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. while the rest of the Mavericks will compete in the Doane Relays in Crete, Neb. Action from both meets will get under way on Friday, April 18.
