Spenner Breaks Heptathlon Record At Mt. SAC

WALNUT, Calif. - Sami Spenner set a new school record in the heptathlon on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Spenner's score of 6,003 points surpassed the previous school record of 5,898 points which she set last season. Spenner finished third behind professional track athletes Barbara Nwaba and Angela Whyte and posted the highest score of all collegiate athletes. Spenner came into day two of competition with 3,542 points after competing in the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters yesterday.
Spenner has now broken four school records in the past two meets. In all, she holds five outdoor school records.
The Columbus, Neb. native started the day by competing in the long jump where she leaped a wind-legal distance of 20-04 1/4 before competing in the javelin throw (121-09) and 800 meters (2:11.93).
Although Omaha is ineligible for NCAA Championship competition, Spenner's score currently ranks second on the NCAA Outdoor Performance List and is only the second score this season to break the 6,000 point plateau. Spenner trails only Kendell Williams of Georgia who posted a score of 6,018 points last week.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow at the Doane Relays in Crete, Neb. The meet is scheduled to start at noon at the Lauritsen outdoor track.
