
Mav Athletics Continue to Dominate in the Classroom

OMAHA, Neb. – The 279 student-athletes at the University of Nebraska Omaha continued to excel in the classroom during the 2014 fall semester. They posted a combined grade point average of 3.362, marking the fifth straight semester of 3.3 or higher.
“Our student-athletes have, once again, stepped up to the challenge in the classroom and delivered a stellar performance,” said Lindsey Ekwerekwu, Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. “I couldn't be more proud of their work ethic and their commitment to academic excellence.”
In breaking down the semester, 13 teams posted combined GPAs of 3.0 or better. The women's tennis team led all teams with a fall GPA of 3.837. Women's golf (3.77) and volleyball (3.523) had the second and third highest GPA's on the women's side. Women's tennis placed 90 percent (nine players) on the Dean's or Chancellor's List to lead all teams.
Men's tennis had the best men's team GPA in the fall at 3.54 and was third overall followed by hockey (3.488) and men's golf (3.209). Hockey placed 58 percent (15 players) on the Dean's or Chancellor's List.
Individually, the department had 28 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 105 others that were 3.5 or better. In all, 215 of the 279 total student-athletes (77 percent) reached the 3.0 mark. Women's swimming and diving had six different student-athletes reach 4.0 for the semester, which led all programs. Hockey and cross country/women's track and field each had 14 student-athletes make the Dean's List.
