Mavericks To Run In Summit Championship

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha cross country team will compete for the Summit League Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings, S.D.
The Mavericks finished fifth at last year's championship and will run this year for the first time as full Division I members. The women's meet begins at 11 a.m.
Most recently, junior Karo Garcia led the Mavericks to a third-place finish at the Mount Marty Invitational on Oct. 24.
Garcia, the reigning Summit cross country athlete of the week, finished third overall with a time of 18:37.16 over the 5K course, 1:31 better than her time on the same course last year and a personal best at that distance.
Perla Gutierrez was second for the Mavs and 19th overall in a time of 19:19.84, also a personal best at 5K and an 11-second improvement from last year.
Rosie Gensichen was third on the team and 24th overall at 19:32.26, just ahead of teammates Lauren Houston and Alyssa Averhoff. Houston was 26th at 19:35.50 while Averhoff was 27th at 19:38.65, both personal bests.
Following the championship, the Mavericks will compete in the NCAA Regionals at Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, Nov. 13.
