Mavericks Finish Season at NCAA Midwest Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Omaha cross country team concluded its first season in Division I at the 2015 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Friday afternoon.
The Mavericks were competing in the regionals for the first time since completing their four-classification to D-I. They finished 32nd with a team score of 934 in a highly competitive field which saw the top Summit League finisher, North Dakota State, take 13th place.
Karo Garcia led the Mavericks as she had in five of the previous six races with a time of 23:10.6 over the 6K course at Rim Rock Farm. She was 167th overall.
Perla Gutierrez was second for the Mavericks and 178th overall with a time of 23:21.7 while Avery Schmit was third and 194th with a time of 23:43.7.
Alyssa Averhoff was two places back with a time of 23:53.1, just ahead of Rosie Gensichen who completed the scoring for the Mavericks in a time of 23:58.5, putting her 199th.
Also running for the Mavericks were freshmen Shae Spady, who ran a time of 25:03.1, and Lauren Houston who clocked a time of 25:18.8.
The Mavericks will now transition indoors for the beginning of the track & field season which begins on Dec. 12 at the K-State Winter Invitational.
