Mavericks Fifth In Summit Indoor Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Omaha track & field team has been picked to finish fifth in the annual preseason coaches' poll.
The Mavericks earned 22 points in the voting, putting them behind Oral Roberts (28) in fourth and just ahead of Western Illinois (20) in sixth. North Dakota State was picked to win its Summit-record ninth consecutive indoor championship, receiving 49 points and seven first-place votes. South Dakota got the other first-place vote and 41 points in the voting to finish second while South Dakota State (39) was picked third.
IUPUI (7th/14) and IPFW (8th/7) rounded out the voting.
Last season, the Mavericks tied with Western Illinois for fifth in the indoor championship. Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens and junior Taryn Derickson were both all-league selections after finishing second and third in the high jump respectively. They will lead a strong jumping corps that also includes sophomore Noni Henderson who scored in last season's championship in the triple jump.
The Summit League Indoor Championship will be held on February 26-27 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
