This Week
The Omaha men's and women's golf teams return to action next week. The men travel south for the Wallace Jones Invitational, a 54-hole event hosted by Louisiana Monroe on Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24. The women's golf team will take part in the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational hosted by Morehead State. The 54-hole event will take place over three days in Ocala, Fla. on Sunday - Tuesday, March 22-24.
The Coaches
Tim Nelson is in his 12th season coaching the women's golf team at UNO. Nelson has led the Mavericks to four conference championships including three straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association titles before the Mavericks began their reclassification to Division I in 2011. The 1980 UNO grad also has guided the women's team to three NCAA regional titles and three appearances in the NCAA Championship. Seth Porter is in his fourth year at UNO and was elevated to the head coach of the men's team prior to this season. The 2002 graduate of Nebraska was a four-year letter winner there and a former professional player on the Gateway and Canadian Tours.
LAST EVENT - Men Finish 13th at Sacramento State
The Omaha men's golf team took 13th place at the Sacramento State Invitational on March 10. The Mavericks posted a 54-hole team score of 926.
Karl Krieser led the Mavericks in scoring with a score of 226 to finish in a tie for 41st overall.
Alex Holtan shot a score of 229 to finish in a tie for 54th.
Brandon Sletmoen was third for the Mavericks and in a tie for 72nd overall with a three-round total of 235. Taylor Sidzyik was one stroke back at 236 and tied for 79th overall in the field of 100 golfers.
Phillip Baumberger completed the scoring for the Mavericks at 246.
LAST EVENT - Women Tie For Ninth at Southern Utah
The Omaha women's golf team finished in a three-way tie for ninth place at the Pizza Hut Thunderbird Invitational at Southern Utah on March 13, posting a two-day total of 634.
Megan Vetrovsky finished first for the Mavericks in scoring and in a tie for 18th overall with a 36-hole total of 155. That put her three strokes ahead of teammates Sophie Peters and Katie Kesti who finished at 158. Peters and Kesti finished in a tie for 29th in the field of 87 golfers.
Makenna Kroeker was fourth for the Mavs and in a tie for 53rd overall with a score of 163, and Alexa Ruwe completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a score of 180, good for 84th overall.
Rankings
Krieser is 14th in the Summit League for scoring average at 74.9 through 18 rounds this season. He is the only Maverick ranked in the top 20. Denver's Petter Mikalsen leads the league with an average of 70.7 in 19 rounds.
As a team, the Maverick men rank sixth out of nine schools with a team 18-hole stroke average of 305.1.
On the women's side, Sophie Peters is 20th in the league with a stroke average of 78.6 in 20 rounds. Denver's Mariell Bruun leads the Summit League with a stroke average of 72.5 in 17 rounds
As a team, the Mavs are sixth in the Summit with an 18-hole average of 322.9 in 18 rounds.

Following play at Louisiana Monroe, the men's team will continue its southern swing at the UALR First Tee Classic hosted by Arkansas Little Rock on Monday and Tuesday, March 30-31. The women will play closer to home at the Saluki Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois in Carbondale on Sunday and Monday, March 29-20.
