Mavericks Split Weekend at Doane and California

This Week
The Mavs will split this weekend at Doane and California for meets this weekend. On April 17-18, some of the team will be competing at the Doane Relays in Crete, Neb. On April 14-18, another group of athletes will head to Azusa, Calif. for the Brian Clay Invitational, to Norwalk, Calif. for the Beach Invitational and to Walnut, Calif. for the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Coaches
Chris Richardson is in his ninth season with the Omaha track & field program, his second as its head coach after seven seasons as an assistant. Richardson helped guide the Mavericks through some of their most successful years including three conference championships and three top-five NCAA finishes. The highlight of that stretch included a fourth-place finish at the 2010 indoor championship prior to the Mavericks' reclassification to Division I. In 2011, he was named the USTFCCCA South Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Richardson is assisted by Marc Bierbaum and Ryan Finley. Bierbaum is in his fifth season coaching the distance events in addition to coaching the cross country team. Finley is in his second season, coaching both sprints and jumps. Cliff Cisar and former UNO standout and multiple record holder Sami Spenner are volunteer assistant coaches.
The Previous Meet
Ashley Kildow broke the school record in the 5,000 meters at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake. Kildow's time of 17:00.19 earned her first place and was almost 21 seconds faster than the previous record set by Amanda Vorthmann in 2013.
In other running events, Kristin Rogers took third in the 10,000 meters in a time of 38:38.66. Karo Garcia came in fifth with a time of 39:12.11 while Perla Gutierrez was sixth with a time of 39:34.96.
Katarina Zarudnaya took second place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:30.31 while Kildow finished in a personal best time of 4:34.16, good for sixth place.
The 4x100 team of Nicole Liske, Terri Armstrong, Hannah Fowler and Tschida Johnson finished in sixth with a time of 49.66, five-hundredths of a second short of the school's season high.
Alexis Allgood, Zarudnaya, Kayla Sabotin and Kildow made up the 4x400 team that finished in fifth place with a time of 3:56.77, just shy of equaling the school's season best.
Megan Adams threw a season best mark of 124-08 in the discus, good for third place. In the long jump, Noni Henderson jumped a personal best 18-03 ¼ for third place. Nicole Liske came in eighth place with a mark of 16-10.
Freshman Stephanie Ahrens had a jump of 5-09 ¼ in the high jump, just one-half inch from equaling her personal best. She took first place. Emily Everitt placed fifth with a jump of 5-06, and Taryn Derickson was sixth with a jump of 5-04 1/4.
Lauren Doeschot took sixth place in the javelin throw with a mark of 110-04. Macy Woitzel was in seventh place with a throw of 109-08 while Megan Adams was eighth at 106-09.
In the triple jump, Denneil Shaw posted a leap of 37-01 3/4, good for fifth place. Noni Henderson jumped 36-07 and came in sixth.
Ranking in the Summit League
In the 1,500 meters, Katarina Zarudnaya is fourth (4:30.31). Ashley Kildow ranks third in the 5,000 meters (17:00.19). In the 10,000 meters, Kristen Rogers holds first place (38:38.66), Karo Garcia is in second (39:12.11), Perla Gutierrez is in third (39:34.96) and Rosie Gensichen is in sixth (40:33.56). Stephanie Ahrens is fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.14).
Ahrens also ranks second in the high jump (5-09 3/4) while Emily Everitt is tied for fourth (5-06) and Taryn Derickson is seventh (5-04 1/4). In the long jump, Noni Henderson is tied for fifth (18-3 1/4).
Megan Adams is seventh in the discus throw (124-08) and Lauren Doeschot is seventh in the javelin throw (115-08).
Up Next For The Mavericks
The Mavericks will be competing at the Pre-Drake meet in Lincoln, Neb. on Wednesday, April 22 and the Drake Relays, Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25. Also on Friday, April 24, the Mavs will compete at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
