Women at Summit Championship, Men To WIU

The Omaha women's golf team concludes its season by competing in the Summit League Championship on Monday through Wednesday, April 20-22. Play will begin at 10 a.m. CT each day at the Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. The men's golf team is in action at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational at Western Illinois on Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21 in Macomb, Ill.
The Coaches
Tim Nelson is in his 12th season coaching the women's golf team at UNO. Nelson has led the Mavericks to four conference championships including three straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association titles before the Mavericks began their reclassification to Division I in 2011. The 1980 UNO grad also has guided the women's team to three NCAA regional titles and three appearances in the NCAA Championship. Seth Porter is in his fourth year at UNO and was elevated to the head coach of the men's team prior to this season. The 2002 graduate of Nebraska was a four-year letter winner there and a former professional player on the Gateway and Canadian Tours.
LAST EVENT - Mavericks Tie For Fourth At Oral Roberts
Karl Krieser shot his eighth round below par this season to lead the Omaha men's golf team to a tie for fourth at the rain-shortened ORU Shootout on April 14.
The Mavericks posted a team score of 614 to finish in a tie with Midland Community College. The Mavs improved by 24 strokes with a round of 295 after an opening round of 319 which was played in heavy rain and wind.
Krieser shot 69 in round two, the second lowest round on the team this season. The senior leads the Mavericks in sub-par rounds. He finished in a tie for second with a score of 146.
Caleb Haight finished at 154 for the tournament, good for a tie for 18th. Phillip Baumberger was three strokes back at 157.
Alex Holtan tied for 41st in the 76-player tournament with a score of 158. Taylor Sidzyik concluded the scoring for the Mavericks with a total of 161 which put him in a tie for 57th.
Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, had a score of 168.
LAST EVENT - Women Tie For 15th at Morehead State Invitational
The Omaha women's golf team hasn't played since tying for 15th at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational on March 24. The Mavericks finished with a team score of 955 over three rounds at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort, putting them in a tie with Tampa.
Katie Kesti led the Mavericks finishing at 232, good for 43rd place. She was one stroke ahead of Sophie Peters who finished in a tie for 44th.
Megan Vetrovsky carded a score of 234, good for a tie for 51st. Makenna Kroeker posted a total score of 256, putting her 92nd. Alexa Ruwe concluded the scoring for the Mavericks with a three-day total of 278.
Rankings
Krieser is 12th in the Summit League for scoring average at 74.5 through 26 rounds this season. He is the only Maverick ranked in the top 20. Denver's Petter Mikalsen leads the league with an average of 70.6 in 25 rounds.
As a team, the Maverick men rank sixth out of nine schools with a team 18-hole stroke average of 304.
On the women's side, Sophie Peters is just outside the top 20 in the league with a stroke average of 79.1 in 25 rounds. Alejandra Acosta of Oral Roberts leads the Summit League with a stroke average of 74.4 in 25 rounds
As a team, the Mavs also are sixth in the Summit with an 18-hole average of 322.8 in 25 rounds.
