OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's golf team opens its fall season on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21 and 22, at the South Dakota Coyote Classic in Sioux City, S.D.
The tournament kicks off with 36 holes on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The final round is Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Dakota Dunes Country Club. Last year, the Mavericks finished fifth in the same tournament.
Omaha has five returners from last year's team that finished sixth at the Summit League Championship. Senior Katie Kesti is UNO's top returning scorer with a stroke average of 79.4 last season. She led the Mavericks with three top-five finishes including two thirds. She was second on the team and 13th overall at the Summit Championship.
Megan Vetrovsky is coming off a fine freshman campaign in which she was UNO's third-leading scorer with a stroke average of 79.9. She was the Mavericks' top scorer in three tournaments last season and was second three other times.
The Mavericks also welcome three freshmen to the mix this season in Mandy Boyle, Morgan Miller and Jordan York. Boyle was a four-year letter winner at Moorhead (Minn.) High School who had nine top-five finishes as a senior. Miller earned four letters at Bemidji (Minn.) High School where she was a team captain. York was the individual medalist in the Nebraska Class B State Tournament during her senior year at Scottsbluff High School, leading the Bearcats to their second straight state championship.
Following play at South Dakota, the Mavericks will take part in the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout at Oral Roberts on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 28-29.
